Beddington Park Cycle Rides
In June 2007, Pollards Hill Cyclists and SW London CTC launched a season of summer leisure rides from Beddington Park. The series has been so successful that they are going to continue. Rides will remain weekly until the end of September 2007 and then go monthly through the winter, on the 3rd Saturday on each month. Anyone wishing to come along should meet at 1:30pm outside the Parkside Cafe by the playground. The ride leaves at 2:00pm and returns before 5:00pm. There's no need to book, no club to join and no money to pay - just turn up and go! See their website for more details -

Picnic and BBQ Area in Beddington Park
The Friends are looking to provide a Picnic and BBQ area for the use of the general public. The facilities will include seating, BBQ stands for cooking with bins for used BBQ trays and extra litter bins. We are also looking to provide a line of Silver Birch to give some shade for the area.
The area we are looking at is near the Café, the toilets, the childrens' playground, and the river.
The Park receives thousands of visitors each year and the one facility it lacks is anywhere to sit, other than the few seats dotted here and there. When the weather is good people sometimes bring small BBQ's with them, which often leave unsightly brown marks on the ground. We are also looking to provide one bench that is suitable for wheelchair use, as we have many disabled visitors.
We are applying for funding to Viridor for the benches, Public Realm for the BBQs and Metropolitan Public Gardens for part of the cost of the trees, with the Friends paying the remainder.
The Park benefits visitors from far and wide, and we look forward to providing them with an added facility from which they can enjoy it.

Lych Gate - Jenny Slark, a Councillor for Beddington North reported that she has been chasing the council regarding the gate. There had finally been some progress as Fee Tender Documents had been issued to three consulting architects which were due back by the end of May. Post-meeting note: If any member of the Friends wish to contact Jenny they should ring her on 07786 056034. Further to what Councillor Slark had told us earlier Dee said that the Lych Gate was now on the English Heritage "At Risk" register and Sutton Council have now allocated £85,000 for its repair. This meant that funding from Viridor would no longer be needed.
Projects Sub-Committee - Chris Carter reported that Section 106 funds have been earmarked for refurbishing the tennis courts. Discussions regarding the exact format of the courts for tennis and other sports were taking place. There was a possibility that they could be floodlit at some point in the future.
Plans to create a pedestrian and cycle path from the Grange car park towards Hackbridge station were progressing and monies have been set aside for the scheme. Chris had suggested that ducting for lighting cabling be incorporated during the construction, even if installation had to be a project for the future. There were still questions to be answered about the bridge over the stream.
There is a progressive improvement scheme for improving the river and we are reasonably enthusiastic about the parks management plan. There was a suggestion that fallen trees could be used to mark a dog free children's play area.
